As an initial process, we decided on our genre. As we have limited supplies and a restricted access to software, we realised there could be no way for us to be able to reach our audience through special effects. As a consequence, we decided to use emotions and emotional attachment as a tool to strike the audience the most. We figured that manipulating the audiences feelings and reactions would have the greatest impact.
Based on this concept, we ruled out the idea of action, science fiction, western and other genres that either require quality special effects or locations that we don’t have access to. We also deducted the idea of a murder film, and a comedy. This was because a horror or murder was very typical and has little variation within the genre, we also decided not to do a comedy because the comedic factor what be too difficult to script.
The main genres we decided to consider were adventure, drama and mystery.
